G&K ELECTRIC INC. AND CENTREPORT BUSINESSES IN THE OMAND’S CREEK AREA DONATED 400 POUNDS OF FOOD TO WINNIPEG HARVEST IN MID-JUNE
Monday, July, 23, 2018 – In June, G&K Electric Inc. and other CentrePort businesses in the Omand’s Creek area voluntarily teamed up to gather food to relieve Winnipeg Harvest of its shortage of donations during the summer.
“At G & K Electric, we commit to being a responsible member of the community we serve. We are proud that we, along with our CentrePort neighbours, were able to support Winnipeg Harvest,” said Jodi Moskal, G & K’s Vice President of Network Cabling Solutions. “The Omand’s Creek area is a wonderful business community with a strong sense of corporate social responsibility. We are grateful they donated.”
With the help of the 15 businesses who assisted with donations, G & K was able to stack up 400 pounds of food, which will go a long way to help provide the adults, children, and seniors who rely on Winnipeg Harvest donations during the summer months have ongoing access to nutritious food.
“Food insecurity never takes a holiday in the summer. At Winnipeg Harvest over 64,000 people—including 42% of children,” said a spokesperson from Winnipeg Harvest. “Summer is a particularly challenging time for our food bank as donations tend to fall while people are away at the lake or on vacation. However, thanks to the kindness of G&K Electric and neighbouring CentrePort businesses, families, and individuals in need will be able to enjoy a healthy, nutritious meal. “
Out of all the participants, SMS Equipment Inc. (SMSE) made the largest donation and Saturn Industries Ltd. donated the second largest amount of goods right before the deadline.
Participants received free scratch tickets and entered in a draw where the winner—Saturn Industries—will receive two free hours of electrical services.
Next on the list of community projects is a new and gently used board game and book collection in support of Seven Oaks Hospital. To collaborate with G & K on this initiative please contact us at 204-774-5549, Jodi Muskal [email protected] or drop by our office at 2116 Logan Avenue.
